Prime Minister Victor Ponta said in an interview with German business daily Handelsblatt that he will accept any decision of the Constititional Court on the matter of the referendum and is willing to cooperate with Traian Basescu if CCR will decide the referendum of July 29 was not valid.

"I will respect any decision (of the Constitutional Court). (...) Of course, Romania's reputation has been affected," said Ponta, pointing out that he himself has refrained from launching attacks against Traian Basescu after referendum.

"In my opinion, the referendum ended the political crisis," added the Prime Minister to Handelsblatt.

Despite the economic consequences of political dispute in Bucharest, Ponte expressed confidence that Romania does not depend on financial assistance from the IMF and EU.

"No, definitely we will not need five billion from the preventive agreement - unless the euro area will face problems that can not be anticipated. (...) We still work with the financial markets, the situation is stable, " Prime Minister Victor Ponta concluded.
