The longest bicycle track in Romania has been inaugurated

A bicycle track about 37 kilometers long which Timis County authorities say it is the longest in the country and which starts from Timisoara until the border with Serbia, being built along the Bega River dam, was inaugurated Wednesday, and whoever wishes can borrow bikes .

The bicycle tracks sets off at Podul Modoş, at the exit from Timişoara, then passes through localities Utvin, Sânmihaiu Român, Sânmihaiu German, Sânmartinul Mare and Otelec. The track’s other end is situated near the border to Serbia, Mediafax reports.

Cyclists who have already traveled the route say that parts of it are uneven, while Timis County Council President, Titu Bojin, says that there have been cases in which cars have used the track, although it is forbidden, and this is the reason why bumps molded .


According to representatives of Banat Water Basin Administration, those who will travel with cars on the track will be fined 7,000 lei.
Those wishing to travel the route will be able to borrow bikes for free. ABAB purchased 30 bicycles, but they are not available for now because there is no established procedure by which they can be borrowed by cyclists.

The value of the cross-border project amount to 2.3 million euro. The works on the track began in May 2014. It has eight shelters for cyclists and 14 barriers were installed to stop cars from entering the track.
