The President referred to the People’s Movement Party, adding that although it was a party “borne before term”, he hopes it would get two or three seats in the European Parliament on May 25.
“The attendance rate in the elections, I believe will be around 30-35% (European Elections – editor’s note). It will be a very low attendance rate. Of course I very much want that the PMP should get across the threshold and get two to three seats and then, after the European elections …The USD will definitely win, but according to the new polls if the right wing parties would join they could defeat the USD and they would also provide the president of Romania in the presidential elections of November (...) I believe that if they are responsible, (right wing parties / editor’s note ) they could have a single candidate. I will finish my term, I will support the PMP, but do not ask me to unify the right wing, because I cannot do it, it takes a dialogue between parties because they all have ambitions to provide the president. After the European elections, they need to establish that only one party can provide the president. (...) The best prepared for presidency is definitely Emil Boc. I do not know whether he would want to, but the experience he has acquired, the type of responsibility he manifested, the ability to sacrifice votes for the country’s welfare, not that he would be a perfect man, but he went through a lot with Romania. (...) He has accumulated an experience that not many prime ministers do”, Basescu said”.
