Reducing the CAS is a good measure, but it has received much criticism and it has been turned into a political controversy, said Monday before the Senate Finance Minister Ioana Petrescu.

"I, the Ministry of Finance and this bill have received a lot of criticism. I confess that if this criticism had focused only on me as minister, I would have not considered it a problem. Instead, it bothered me so much that a very good tax measure, which is pro-business, pro-development, became a political controversy, "said Ioana Petrescu.

According to the minister, "the political environment should act as a lever of support for economic measures to ensure stability and predictability of the economic environment, to convey safety to Romanian and foreign investors, that the public policy of our country can provide an economic environment conducive to development" .

"We want investors in Romania, but we do not provide them with a proper environment. When we provide these conditions for them and we want to take action, we start splitting hairs and we overlook where we started from ", Ioana Petrescu continued.

However, Finance Minister reassured that "we have the resources necessary to finance the reduction of CAS when the law is promulgated by the president."

Meanwhile, Ioana Petrescu also said that "this measure will not affect any commitments to international institutions and is part of a broader program to support the pro-business and pro-economy approach, such as to exempt from taxing the reinvested profits, reducing a total of 29 special taxes and fees and a new approach of the Revenue service, more friendly to the taxpayer and based on electronic communication and on the insolvency law. The CAS reduction is not only necessary, but also welcomed and will have an effect on millions of employees, and the benefits will show in the medium and long term ".

"It has upset me, all this political controversy about the CAS reduction by five percentage points, or 20% of the tax burden to the employer, a measure which I think everyone agrees it is a very good one for the real economy," concluded the Minister of Finance.
