ON THE ROAD TO STABILITY AND GROWTH - THE EU-SOUTHEAST EUROPE SUMMIT

The Economist Intelligence Unit’s forecast on southeast Europe will be presented by prominent analysts during THE EU-SOUTHEAST EUROPE SUMMIT entitled “On the road to stability and growth”, scheduled to take place on October 20th and 21st 2014 at the JW Marriott Bucharest Grand Hotel in Bucharest, Romania, while the summit’s official opening shall be addressed by the president of Socialist International and former Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou and the former Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta.

The political, economic and business outlook for the region will be discussed by deputy prime minister of Albania Niko Peleshi and deputy minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova Iulian Groza, while an official gala dinner will be held with guest of honour the prime minister of Romania Victor Ponta.   

In the complex environment shaped by the general financial and political crisis, weaknesses, advantages and prospects for the wider region shall be discussed by Croatia’s deputy minister of Economy Alen Leveric and Visa Europe’s subregional manager for Romania, Croatia and Slovenia Catalin Cretu, while an outlook on the region’s financial landscape will be given by The World Bank’s lead economist Wolfgang Fengler and Goldman Sachs’s senior economist and executive director within the global macro & markets group Themistoklis Fiotakis.

Among others, the banking outlook for southeast Europe shall be given by EBRD’s lead regional economist for southeast Europe Bojan Markovic and president of EximBank Romania Traian Halalai. 

The importance of attracting investments will be discussed by the president of the Foreign Investors Council in Romania Mihai Bogza, the executive chairman of the British-Romanian Chamber of Commerce Raymond Breden, the president of the German-Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Radu Merica, the president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Romania Valeriu Nistor and the chief executive officer of the Bucharest Stock Exchange Ludwik Sobolewski.     

The energy map of Europe and the outlook for the southeast European region shall be discussed in a separate session, while the supervisory board chairman of Transelectrica Carmen Georgeta Neagu will speak on the transmission network extension in the east of Europe.  New market opportunities in southeast Europe for IT and telecoms will be discussed by the vice-president for business development of Microsoft Central and Eastern Europe Nikolay Pryanishnikov, while new business prospects in the region shall be explored by the vice-president for Economy, International and EU Affairs of the Croatian Chamber of Economy Domagoj Juricic and other prominent representatives of the business community.
