Ukraine is interested to diversify its suppliers network and plans to import natural gas from Romania, said on Tuesday Ihor Prokop, president of Ukrtransgaz, quoted by Reuters.

"Romania is looking for a market, while the Romanian natural gas are interesting for us as a means to diversify suppliers ", Prokopiv said.

The president of Ukrtransgaz showed that Romania is likely to have available in 2016 an amount of gas of 2 billion cubic meters for export.
Ukraine, which used to take nearly all its gas supplies from Russia, began to buy gas from the European Union, in a bid to reduce energy dependence on Moscow and the bills as well.

Currently, Ukraine buys 50% of its gas imported from Slovakia, Poland, Hungary and the rest from Russia, according to Ukrtransgaz.

Romania is already exporting gas in the Republic of Moldavia, via the Iasi-Ungheni pipeline, inaugurated in August last year and was built to reduce Moldova’s dependence on Russian gas delivery.
