One of the system’s key billionaires, nicknamed the Marble King, Adriean Videanu passed for 10 years from one seat to another and managed to build an empire from which he did not give anything back.
Videanu’s case was presented Thursday on the Daily Summary show on Antenna 3.
Videanu is among the few "heavyweights" of the former PDL against whom nobody from the Justice department has ever dared to touch.
Throughout his political career, he was a deputy for five terms, the mayor of the Bucharest, the Minister of Economy.
In 1987, Adriean Videanu graduated the Faculty of Transport and did not know that politics would change his life. He started out as chairman of the Democratic Party’s youth, during 1993- 1996.
The real "breakthrough" for Videanu was taking over the Simeria marble factory. In 1997, Mioriţa Videanu said about her family affairs "we purchased after the privatization process, 70% of the shares of Marmosim SA, the largest natural stone processing factory in our country."
In the first six months of 2004, Videanu exported to Bahrain, Germany, UAE, USA, the Sultanate of Oman, Syria, Italy, Belgium.
Videanu has always been behind President Traian Basescu, he succeeded Basescu at City Hall, and no street was left with curbs unchanged, hence he got the name of "curbs changer".
The biggest damaged incurred by Videanu was the purchase of a land from Mihăileşti.
Moreover, although he was holding public offices, Adrien Videanu did not neglect his business, so that in 2011, his fortune was estimated at 60-70 million euros and became the wealthiest of the Romanian politicians.
He has also provided an explanation for his accumulated wealth: he does not smoke and he does not drink..
In 2013, DIOCT seized his fortune and Videanu was investigated for undermining the national economy, a case file that has not been heard of since then.
The new Penal Code no longer features the offence of undermining the national economy .
