In a speech delivered before more than 500 PNL members from Buzau County, the Liberal leader criticized the PSD and the social democrat leadership in extremely harsh terms, saying that they "learned nothing from the history of their own party" and adding that if they did not have the support of the Liberal Party, PSD would have never come into power.
"In good faith and with an honest heart, we shook hands with this party, the PSD, in the hope that they had learned something from the last years history, they had a young leader and a young team who had to have learned something from their own party’s history, we have hoped that after this period of the Basescu regime nobody would think of doing the same think with this country as Basescu’s people.
We have made Ponta Prime Minister, without us, nor would the PSD, nor would Ponta have acceded in Government. What did the PSD do further on? What they knew how to do, they have learned nothing, they do not have any sense of fairness, gratitude to some people who had supported them when they were going to hard times, when they were in the opposition. We have brought them into government and we have turned Ponta from a next to nothing into a whopper Prime Minister”, the PNL president Crin Antonescu stated in Buzau, according to Mediafax.
In the same context, Crin Antonescu, criticized Basescu saying that he had "forgotten that PNL made him president."
“Băsescu could not bear the thought that the PNL was strong, although it was us who made him president, in 2004 we have made quite an effort so that Basescu should win, we have struggled with all available forces to support the candidate Traian Băsescu and we have made him president. He could not stand the thought that the PNL had its own personality, he would not give up without trying every day to choke this party, to transform it into an attachment of its own party intentions and ambitions. However strong Basescu has ever been, and however many things he has done he could not do this. The PNL is still alive and it is stronger than back then” Crin Antonescu said.
The Liberals leader added that the PNL would never owe anything to its former alliance partners and added that currently the party was in a state where “ many people sing it requiem”.
