I was a jounalist for two years and I’ve been part of the Romanian political life for the past 25 years.
It is a very important portofolio and I want to publicly thank Prime Minister Victor Ponta because he trusted me and Mr. Jean-Claude Juncker, because he is the one who ultimately decided who would join the team. I want to thank the Romanians too.
It is a great success, it is proof of confidence. It is a recognition that Romania is on par with other Member States.
The backstage negotiations that I was not part of have been explained by premier Ponta. Mr. Cioloş was the first option. When he knew that no country could continue with the same portfolio, Mr. Ponta had this proposal and Mr. Juncker decided to interview me me.
I would like us to overcome the internal political confrontations
Mr. Juncker wanted to have experienced politicians and who are legitimised by elections.
It was conveyed to me by all channels that it is about Regional Policy. The portofolios are equally important.
The importance of a portofolio is not measured by the budget it manages.
It is very important that Regional policy is an investmnt policy, the main lever whereby EC can improve peoples lives.
My role concretly consist if the direct management of the Regional Development Fund and of the Cohesion fund, funds that go to the less developped countries.

I will treat all countries equallu. Of course, I will not forget that I am Romanian.
Romania has made great progress. It is important that all the deficiencies that ked to suspension of payments have been regulated with the help of the Romanian authorities.
Corina Creţu will hold the portofolio of Regional Policy in the new European Comission led by Jean-Claude Juncker.
