Daily Income. Bizarre promises from the candidates in the presidential elections

There can be no elections campaign without bizarre promises. At least not in Romania. In this year's presidential elections, some candidates’ programs objectives are downright phantasmagoric.

By far, the juiciest program is that of Dan Diaconescu. He proposes a referendum to reintroduce the death penalty, VAT reduction to 14% or the establishment of the People’s Wealth Company. However, Diaconescu also promises coupons and 20,000 euros for those who want to open a business. But top of the list are two points absolutely hilarious: granting citizenship to those investing mind and soul in Romania and the return of the OTV on the cable companies.

Candidate Gheorghe Funar is keen on outlawing the UDMR and banning political parties formed along ethnic lines. Like Diaconescu, Funar wants the reunification of the Romanian territory by annexing Moldavia, but he also has ambitious fiscal promises, such as reducing the flat tax at 10% , the VAT at 15% and the VAT for basic foods of 3 %.

Exotic Promises also has William Brânză the PER candidate, including stimulation of births and granting € 2,000 subsidies for each baby and zero taxes for five years to open a business in Romania. Brânză wants to persuade Romanians to vote him in exchange for free flight tickets.

"Reducing the VAT to 14%, would, at this time cause Romania to enter in total collapse. At present, the main source of income from the Romanian economy is the VAT, which we all bear," entrepreneur Ilan Laufer said, invited on the Wednesday edition of the Daily Income.
