UPDATE. Traian Băsescu’s name appears in eight criminal cases, according to the General Prosecution, as follows:
· One case file with the General Prosecutor
· One case file with the Military Prosecutor attached to the Bucharest Court
· One case file with the DNA
· Five case files with the DIOCT
Traian Basescu's name appears in seven criminal cases, according to the centralization of files performed by the Romanian justice department. Specifically, we are talking about a case with the DNA, five case files with DIOCT and a case file in which Gabriela Firea accuses the former president of blackmail.
Antena 3 reporter for justice matters, Ana Maria Roman, explained:
"It is a response to a request the journalists filed after Traian Basescu left from Cotroceni. Tiberiu Nitu was asked several times about the files that Traian Basescu might have but he claimed he did not have a centralization. There, the centralization has been made.
Prosecutors argue that there was a number of 58 criminal cases from which they have chosen to settle 53. There, however, if presidential immunity was invoked in some cases, in others it did not matter. Prosecutors say there were cases unrelated to President Traian Basescu. For example, complaints for pension cuts. Therefore, they argue that 53 were resolved with removal or were dismissed, some also invoked provisions such as that the offence did not exist or that the person did not actually commit the offence.
As for DNA, they argue that there were four criminal cases, of which only one was not solved, we are referring to the "Fleet" case file in which all individuals concerned were not indicted . Traian Basescu is the only one waiting for a solution, which has not yet come from prosecutors.
As far as DIOCT is concerned, there have been registered 6 criminal cases, of which five are still pending resolution, and one has been dropped by emergency ordinance ."
