According to stiripesurse.ro, PNL President Crin Antonescu would have attended the meeting with other liberals, on the one hand and the EPP candidate for the leadership of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, along with several other officials of the European Peoples Party, on the other hand.
Shortly after that meeting, President Traian Basescu met Jean-Claude Juncker in Luxembourg, and then there followed a formal meeting Antonescu - Basescu in Bucharest.
Invited on the 16th of February in the “Daily Summary” show, the S&D group leader in the European Parliament, Hannes Swoboda, confirmed the rumor according to which the National Liberal Party would intend to leave the European Liberals group (ALDE), in favour of the European Peoples Party (PPE), that the PDL and Traian Băsescu are members in.
"I’ve heard this rumor in Brussels, in the European Parliament. I find it odd. You cannot move from one political family to another, depending on who is providing you favors. It is like entering a family and marry someone just because the food there is good and then you would move to another family and marry someone else, because there the food is even better", Hannes Swoboda said on Antena 3.
