"Russia is concerned about Prime Minister Victor Ponta’s affirmations on the future of Moldova, made at a meeting with the Social Democratic Party activists, in Alba Iulia", the Russian Foreign Ministry states.
"As it clearly results from the calls made by the candidate in the presidential elections in Romania for the achievement" of the second big union "by 2018, some political circles in Bucharest continue to develop plans for the annexation of a sovereign neighboring state. Russia considers irresponsible and unacceptable this kind of statements made from abroad in the context of the elections campaign in the Republic of Moldova ", the Russian diplomat argues.
"We expect the authorities in Chisinau to properly review these statements. We also hope that an appropriate reaction will come from Brussels and the European capitals," the Russian Foreign Ministry concludes.
Prime Minister Victor Ponta said on September 12, in his speech before the PSD Congress gathered in Alba Iulia, that his commitment and his appeal to the Romanians is to do together the great union of Romania for the second time.
"I want all of us to assume a commitment: in 1918, here at Alba Iulia, after hundreds of thousands of Romanians gave their lives in World War I, we achieved the most important national objective: the Great Union. I want to and I am asking you to be with me so that a hundred years later we should be that proud, strong and respected country, that our ancestors who were here 96 years ago would have wanted. This is my commitment, it is my appeal to all Romanians to do together a second Great Union of Romania, " Victor Ponta said.
