The Party of European Socialists President Sergei Stanishev, condemned the statements of President Traian Basescu against PSD senator Gabriela Firea.
"I strongly condemn the statements made by Traian Băsescu, who were provocative and inflammatory, and which do not belong in a modern democracy," the leader of the PES said.
" Basescu’s threats are questioning his respect for the political process and appropriate legal proceedings. The suggestion that the spouse of a politician could 'disappear' is beyond the bounds of decency and there is no place for such comments in Romania and the European Union," the PES President also said.
Traian Băsescu conveyed PSD senator, Gabriela Firea, that she might one day not find her husband at home if she misbehaved. The president’s warning comes within days after Gabriela Firea,a member in the Nana committee, stated that the transaction whereby the president’s daughter got hold of the land in the Calarasi county would be void.
