Traian Basescu is going past political exaggeration and reaching very close to a crime in the case of the alleged undercover officer, presidential candidate, says former head of SIE , Mihai Răzvan Ungureanu.

He warns that the effect such a revelation could have on the intelligence service is devastating.

"The president is already moving past political exaggeration and political discourse and is getting dangerously close to the limit of instigating to committing a crime. (...) The effect in the more shadowy world of the cooperation between intelligence services is absolutely devastating, it shows that there is a possibility that Romanian politicians would recourse to political games, " Mihai Razvan Ungureanu pointed out for the RFI.

"If there is a former intelligence service officer, the issue has absolutely no relevance because the officer concerned, once a reservist, can adopt any life option, being only bound by one of the articles of this law whereby he has got the obligation to keep for 30 years the secret on his activities and on everything he did during employment in the service. In the meantime, this secret binds also the third party holder of the secret, thus including the president from disclosing it, it stops him from disclosing such information, "added MRU.

The statement by the former director of the Foreign Intelligence Service was presented Thursday during the show “On Today’s Agenda”, on Antena 3.
