President Băsescu can declare anything he likes, the Parliament does not bother to check or fight back the allegations he makes.

Chamber of Deputies Chairman, Valeriu Zgonea, has stated that he cannot set up a parliamentary committee on the subject of the undercover officer, because Traian Băsescu has made a political statement.

" Personally, I do not see this approach other than a public image one. We have no instrument to summon the president for hearings, we cannot call on any member of the secret services in Romania, because they cannot respond to an allegation that the country’s president made, then this committee except for a politicizing approach cannot get any results. Then I asked, along with members of the Permanent Bureau that by Monday and this has been decided unanimously, the regulations and the legal committees should state their views on such an approach, as to which the legal arguments could be, " Zgonea said.

The final decision has been postponed for a week.

President Băsescu has recently stated that some of the candidates for the Presidency have not fully completed their resumes, because they have to state whether they were or not undercover officers and he has specified that if this is not done, then he will do it himself, pointing out that it is not fair to take on such a high office "holding both control buttons".
