The situation in Romania could be discussed on Thursday by the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) of the European Parliament, following a request made before plenary on 8 June, according to the draft agenda of the committee.

An "exchange of views on the situation in Romania (following the request submitted before the plenary session on 8 June and the Conference of Presidents of 11 June) a meeting " could be held, "eventually" Thursday of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) of the European Parliament, Mediafax informs.

It's an exchange of views with the European Commission representatives.

The agenda will be voted on Thursday at the beginning of the LIBE meeting.

Chairman of the EPP Group in the European Parliament, Manfred Weber, at the proposal of the Romanian delegation, urged on June 8 in the plenary session held in Strasbourg, that the Prime Minister Victor Ponta situation against which prosecution has begun, to be discussed in the European Parliament a release of the EPP reads.

"The situation in Romania is worrying. It is unacceptable that PSD would want to block investigations. The National Anticorruption Directorate should be allowed to shed light in the case of the serious allegations made against Ponta", Manfred Weber said.

European Parliament President Martin Schulz, proposed that the matter be discussed in the specialized committee (Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs) as well as in the Conference of Parliamentary Group Leaders, before being discussed in the Parliament’s plenary .

"It is unacceptable that the Prime Minister and the Minister of Justice opposition leaders should threaten and intimidate citizens who wish to participate in the demonstrations demanding the resignation of Victor Ponta," co-chairman of the Romanian Delegation in the EPP, Theodor Stolojan said.

Prime Minister Victor Ponta is prosecuted for forgery of private documents, complicity to tax evasion and repeated money laundering in the Turceni – Rovinari case file, offenses allegedly committed in the period when he was a lawyer.
