According to the Premier, Romania's problem is "the fight against those who mean to harm Romania and if you're not on Băsescu’s you have no right to do anything in this country."
"The European Commission has got 28 Commissioners and 28 portfolios, it is a kind of government of the European Union. Romania is entitled to a portfolio, but obviously there is competition among the 28 countries. Negotiations are carried out and each one is fighting for his country’s interest (...). The Commission’s President called me and told me that Romania cannot keep the portfolio of Agriculture. The idea is that we are all equal in Europe, even if some are larger and others are smaller and the portfolios are held on rotation by another country (...).Internal political struggles are in any country but none so fierce as the ones being fought here ", Ponta said.
"Out of the 28 countries in 27, except for Romania, everybody went there and fought with other countries. The only country that has achieved a very good portfolio for a Commissioner and which was attacked from the inside is Romania", the Premier added.
"I want everyone to understand what I am saying: Romania’s problem is not the struggle in Brussels, or against Germany, or against Italy. Romania’s problem is the fight against those who mean to harm it and who have said that if you're not on Băsescu’s side you do not have the right to do anything in this country", Ponta said Thursday on Antena 3.
"Mr. Juncker has had a discussion with Mrs. Creţu and with Mr. Cioloş. Tomorrow they will announce the name and the next week the portfolios “.
The prime minister noted that "they have never addressed the topic that Romania should receive the humanitarian portfolio."
Victor Ponta believes that president Traian Băsescu’s actions represent an act of treason of Romania.
'Basescu had Blaga and Iohannis write the letter and then he intervened in support of the letter, that is not that he had anything against it. A very pervert style that has been used many times, " the PSD president added, saying that "there's only one solution: the whole system (Basescu's) has got to go so that Romania should be able to pursue its interests."
