Representatives of 20 local councils in Covasna, Harghita and Mures adopted a memorandum initiated by CNS on the establishment of the administrative region the "Székely Land " with an autonomous status.

Council President of the Székely Sepsi seat (St. George area), Gazda Zoltan told Mediafax he sent last week a letter to all the other 133 local councils that had not yet adopted the Szecklers memorandum, proposing them to put it on the agenda.

In June, Harghita county prefect, Jean-Adrian Andrei, said the Prefecture appealed four decisions of local councils in court whereby they approved the memorandum initiated by CNS establishing the administrative region of the "Székely Land " with an autonomous status because the decisions were contrary to the Constitution and the legislation in force.

The prefect of Covasna, Marius Popica, drew the attention of local councils in a letter, that it was not their job to approve key documents related to state policies in matters of administrative-territorial organization of the state or setting the official language.

In February, CNS asked the 153 local councils of Szecklers to adopt a decision requiring the creation of an administrative region of Romania called the Székely Land, an autonomous status region. The decisions thereof would later on be sent to international fora.

The draft resolution CNS proposed local councils should approve, required that in the administrative-territorial units where a national minority share exceeds ten percent, then the language of that minority should be recognized as an official language.
