Russia's actions from 2014 up to now, demonstrate the intention of Vladimir Putin to impose among the great powers like the USSR used to and the tools that the leader in Moscow uses are solely military, said Gen. (r) Mihaiu Margarit, one of the informal leaders of the military intelligence community, according to adevarul.ro. He argues that Putin even threatened with nuclear strikes, Romania being one of the possible targets.

Attending a workshop on military topics, organized by the "Marshal Al. Averescu" Foundation in Buzau, General Mărgărit presented a theory that Russia under Vladimir Putin, is mimicking the behavior of the former Russian Empire and of the Soviet Union.
"I am arguing that the heavy wind blows from the East. Why? Because it has always been so, since this great state to the East emerged. Russia's policy is one that finds its roots in some Russian imperial policy. Russia’s policy is to rebuild their old USSR belligerent position against the United States. Maybe it's too much to say that we are in full cold war, but we are in the position where Russia is mimicking the old Soviet Union. It is obvious when they speak of NATO , nobody talks with anybody but the United States, "said General Mărăgărit.
According to the military expert, interventions in the Crimea, in the Eastern Ukraine, the threats against NATO member states and recent approaches to Syria clearly demonstrates Putin's intention to impose internationally by force.

"Russia has begun to appear at the table of great powers and the European diplomacy switched in the second position is now the biggest loser compared to the Russian diplomacy. We know about those raids which were conducted against NATO states they went as far as to the United States and Canada, and we are witnessing military actions in Syria and this is an advantage, an extra card that Putin in terms of diplomacy, "said General Margarit, in the seminar in Buzau.
