President Traian Basescu announced on Friday that he urged the Ministry of Justice and he informed the Prosecutor General about the request made to initiate criminal proceedings against former ministers Adriana Ticau, Alexandru Athanasiu, Mihai Tanasescu, Gabriel Sandu and Daniel Funeriu in the Microsoft case file.
The head of state said that all those who filed complaints in the Microsoft licenses case file are Romanians, showing that no foreigner made denouncements to DNA and that the file does not start from the statements made by Bittner, about whom no reference is made.
View below the statements made by the head of state:
-the meeting tonight with Viktor Orban is not an official one, but a private one. I have invited him knowing that he would come to Cluj, we will be addressing issues related to the Constitution of Romania and the risks incurred on the Romanian Hungarian bilateral relations.
- There will be no press release
- related to the Microsoft case file, I have approved or to put it correctly in legal terms: I have requested the Ministry of Justice and informed the prosecutor general about the initiation of criminal proceedings against Mrs. Ţicău Adriana, Mr. Sandu Gabriel, Athanasiu Alexandru, Tănăsescu Nicolae Mihai and Funeriu Daniel.
This case needs to be investigated to the end
It was not a formal request to initiation criminal proceedings, I have reviewed much of the 13 folders that were sent and I believe this case file needs to be investigated quickly and to the end.
The documents in the file show that not all charges are the same as showed also in the prosecutors note.
For instance in Daniel Funeriu’s case, there is no money related suspicion, no bribery and so on, he lies in the area of a possible office abuse charge.
At this point, none of the five has any quality, as well as Victor Ponta. The quality that prosecutors will eventually give them is further to my request, are equal to Victor Ponta at the moment, so they have no quality. Or Victor Ponta will acquire another quality later.
Therefore, from my point of view, the investigation can continue and any delay by the Parliament is harming the institution’s credibility.
In terms of recovering the amounts, some of the accounts are frozen abroad and some of the people who were likely to receive money did not receive any money.
I did witness the Bittnerian adventure launched in the media and heavily supported. In my opinion it is an intoxication, this file has not started off from Bitnerr, about whom no reference is made here, the intelligence structures have signaled out the risks of incorrect management of the contract in 2009, and the intel was forwarded to the institutions responsible.
It was difficult tracing back the route, to when the contract was entered into. Therefore, I can assure you that nothing in this case file is related to Bittner, it is something started in 2009 which came up with some clarifications only in 2014.
The information I have is that nobody was looked up by Bittner in the USA. It is something initiated in 2009 which came to some clarifications in 2014.
That things have proceeded faster or slower, that is another thing. Those who have spoken are all Romanians. No foreigner has talked to the DNA. Those who have made denouncements, to employ the terms in the file
The Prosecution Office of the High Court of Cassation and Justice announced Tuesday that the prosecutor general Tiberiu Nitu sent the Justice Minister the note forwarded by the DNA requesting initiation of procedures for formulating the request for prosecution against: Senator Ecaterina Andronescu - for abuse of office, bribery, influence peddling and money laundering; MP Valerian Vreme - for abuse of office; Senator Petru Serban Mihailescu - for incitement to abuse of office, nepotism and money laundering.

Daniel Funeriu, former Minister of Education and Research - for abuse of office; Alexander Athanasiu, former Minister of Education and Research - for abuse of office, bribery, influence peddling and money laundering; Mihai Nicolae Tanasescu, former Minister of Finance - for abuse of office, bribery, influence peddling and money laundering.
- about Nuland’s statemet:her remark includes Romania too not only Romania, but it also includes Romania. To me it is nothing new, since 2006, by the CSAT decision, corruption has been treated as a threat for national security.
Maybe as the time goes by you will be convinced that this is not a political attack, it is a reality and all state institutions fighting against corruption must be supported
The main cause that Ukraine has ended up as it is because of the corruption
For those who do not find themselves in the statement of Ms Nuland, I’d recall them that Ms. Nuland speaks of the Parliament hindering justice, if Romania would not have had some five MPs whose investigations were blocked: Varujan Vosganian, Borbely, Paul Dobre and several other gentlemen, MPs who are hiding behind the parliamentary vote. Who should tell Victor Ponta that there MPs are MPs who were declared incompatible and are hiding? Or maybe Iohannis will realize that too
Members of the legal committee of the Parliament are also suspects
The budget rectification was the signal to discredit all of our messages that we need NATO to increase the security level and the Army is assigned very little. In these conditions, many have wondered how serious we are
There are things that are made out of lack of responsibility, in case we ask NATO’s support
You cannot sacrifice money, credibility, for votes. Do not swept under the duvet of Article 5
All topics are about Basescu, especially at the Antennas, and RTV, although I have not made public statements in a while
I think we need to return to a more serious and less elections approach , we have a security crisis with unpredictable neighbors
