Traian Basescu decorated one of the soldiers who mocked the martyrs of the 1989Revolution.
Colonel Marian Dorel Nutu from the Security and Protection Service, now a brigadier general by order of Traian Basescu acknowledged in the testimony given in the trial of communism that 25 years ago he was one of those who took the crematory ashes of the people killed in the Revolution which was stored in bins, and threw it into a sewer.
Prosecutors argued that the incineration of corpses was intended to conceal the fact that people had been shot and throwing the ashes aimed at the destruction of any sort of proof.
Here is what the Communism Trial files recorded:
"Related to the picking up of the corpses from Timis county morgue and burning them at the human Crematorium" Ashes "of Bucharest.
- Captain Nutu Dorel Marian showed that, by order from col. Petre Moraru, on the morning of 20 December 1989, he traveled with a TV special vehicle to the human crematory, where he took over from colonel Ion Baciu four bins with ashes from the incineration of corpses, which he threw into a manhole, the manhole prosecutor later identified.
The arguments by the defendants who participated in picking up the corpses from the hospital morgue that they did not realize that the incineration of corpses was sought with the purpose that it should not be found out that they had been shot, is undermined by the very conspirator way in which the whole operation was carried out, proven by its unlawful and totally out of the ordinary nature, as well as by the fact that they all knew that in Timisoara, following the use of fire weapons, casualties had resulted.
Arguments by the defendants that during the state of emergency, the military could not refuse to execute the orders to participate in picking up the corpses because they have exposed themselves to unpredictable consequences for themselves and their families cannot be admitted.
In this respect, the illegal nature of the order was obvious to them, as workers in the judiciary, since they were asked to participate in a conspiracy to remove from the morgue a large number of corpses that had not had an autopsy, which was common knowledge that they were victims of repression and that the families they belonged to could have claimed them for burial " the document noted.
