Foreign Minister Titus Corlatean, said in an interview for "Die Welt" that 7 years after joining the EU, Romanians still do not  feel equal to the  other European citizens, and the fact that Romania often plays a role in other countries election campaigns creates a state of  frustration.

"Romania's EU accession occurred 10 years ago and certainly there are many issues to be resolved. Meanwhile it is painful that the EU applies double standards and my country is subject to a special control mechanism," the diplomat said in an interview with the daily "Die Welt" Mediafax reports.

"Romania often plays a role in the national election campaigns of other countries, where clichés  are delivered that are extremely offensive to us. This creates frustration and makes many Romanians not feel equal to other European citizens"  the Foreign Minister said while on a  work visit in Germany.

Regarding the EU reports on corruption, Corlăţean said  that inRomania this phenomenon is not present in a greater or lesser extent than in other European countries

"We, as a government, must,  not only for economic reasons, fight against corruption as powerful as possible," the Foreign Minister said, adding that in this respect, Romania adopted a series of laws to combat corruption which in other countries  do not even exist. "The EU recognizes our efforts in many areas. This does not mean that we have reached our goals. But it is unacceptable to us  thisdiscriminatory treatment of Romania in the EU. We have the right to be treated like all other EU countries," Corlateansaid.
