On the same day on which the United Kingdom passed the Scottish referendum test with flying colors the UDMR leaders launched in Bucharest their autonomy project for the Székely Land.

There are quite a few UDMR proposals in the project that can be classified as absurd: The Land would have an elected president, its own government and a local parliament. Hungarian would become the official language in administration while for official documents the bilingual system will be adopted and residents will be given priority in employment.

It is still unclear how the Land will be able to survive financially, in the unlikely event of achieving autonomy. The fact is that when it comes to money - those that call for further autonomy rely on funds from Bucharest. That's because no matter how you spin the numbers still, they do not add up because the Land is more than 50% dependent on subsidies from the state budget.

In short, the region produces less than it consumes and it cannot survive without financial assistance from the center.

The logical question that arises in this regard is the following: in addition to creating a poor regional enclave, designed strictly on ethnic criteria- what else would serve to a possible but unlikely autonomy? As it was expected, besides the initiators, everyone is criticizing the project.

The Superior Council of Magistracy said the project is unconstitutional, and the parties in power, except for UDMR, but the opposition also said they would vote against the establishment of such Székely Land .

"I would like to have more debate and a stronger stance from the politicians", Elena Christian said, editor of "Income Magazine" who highlighted for the Daily Income show which are the real reasons making autonomy unlikely for the Székely Land.
