As long as we want to go back to being a country with a true strong economy, we need an efficient education system. Currently, the money allotted is insufficient, and the teachers quality, and  the students capacity in particular leave a lot of room for improvement. The social costs  of this policies are huge, because without a functional education system, the perpetuation of poverty is guaranteed.

The Romanian education system is deteriorating from year to year. Half of the students fail to pass the examination stage and the maturity exam last year reached  a record levels from the point of view of the number of students who failed.

For example, in simulations for national exam for  grade 8, 51% of students failed to pass. More serious is that,  out of those who still manage to enter high school, only half pass the Baccalaureate. Last year, 43% of the graduates of the  classes IX-XII missed the chance to attend university because they failed the maturity exam. In addition to students disinterest, the  poor training of teachers is also to blame for the bad results.

Last summer, a third of the aspirants to a teacher’s career passed with marks ranging  between 5 and 7, and 19% of them  failed.

The salaries are extremely low in education, and they account for the teachers lack of interest in pursuing a career in education.

For example, a debutant  teacher in  secondary school teaching, has a net salary between 800 and 1,000 net lei  month. Only after 30 years of work, a teacher with  all grades can reach a net income of  3,000 lei.

Unitary pay law in the budget supported system, designed to solve the faults in the system by increasing low wages, failed to be applied by all governments both the  Boc and the Ponta governments,  its enforcement  is "canceled"  every year by Government  Ordinance.

"The thing being  ignored is that the moment the state  budget is set, the Government should definitely establish some priorities. And according to those priorities, the should   distribute the national budget. If education is really a priority for you, then you take  6% of the GDP and allocate it  for education, " Marius Nistor said, leader of the teachers' unions" Spiru Haret " for the Daily Income show.
