The Greek crisis has effects throughout Europe, including in Romania. The Romanian currency – leu- has registered the highest depreciation in Eastern Europe and the Euro has risen sharply over the last hours.
On our interbank market, the European currency on Monday reached 4.49 lei.
Economic analysts believe that although the National Bank has got the resources to keep the exchange rate within limits, our country will be affected by the Greek crisis.
The crisis in Greece strikes the Leu
Alin Burca, first vice president of the National Association of Travel Agencies (ANAT) said on Monday on the “Daily summary with Mihai Gadea “that Romania will be affected if Greece will sink in and will leave the European Community.
"The boomerang will be of financial nature," Alin Burcea says.
"All the financial agencies will avoid our zone Greece - Romania - Bulgaria. I estimate that the euro will rise to 5,2- 5,3 lei", First Deputy of ANAT said.
Please note that due to the crisis, Foreign Ministry urges Romanians who go on holiday in Greece to have cash on them and to take in consideration that there might be delays in banking transactions.
