The legal suits may cancel the presidential elections campaign which is forecast as one of the dirtiest in history, Bogdan Chirieac writes in his column for DC News.
He believes that the independence of the judiciary in Romania is being seriously questioned by the prosecution of the ICA case scheduled for Monday, during the magistrates holidays.
"A conviction of Dan Voiculescu, the most consistent and fierce political opponent of Traian Basescu, will automatically lead to the idea that the president retaliated trough the court’s decision in compensation for the harm incurred to his brother", Bogdan Chireac says.
"If the judge were to clear Dan Voiculescu, the world would say either that Basescu struck a deal with Voiculescu, or that Ponta took control of the judiciary " concludes the DCNews journalist.
