The mayor of Constanta, RaduMazăre, says he is "a target" of DNA, the law enforcement officials want to investigate how the mayor made ​​the cheapest social housing project in the country. 

The mayor has built 17 buildings and nearly 1,000 houses for the poor,at  the lowest price in Romania, ie EUR 286 sqm.

Nearly 3,000 homeless and people who had been evacuated from their homes have moved in there.


In Constanta, there are 6.000 people living on the streets who need homes.

A mega deal made by Videanu 

Meanwhile, the former mayor of Bucharest, AdrieanVideanuhas stricken a huge deal. The former mayor bought, in 2006, 143 apartments with 20 million euros. 

If the social houses  built by RaduMazare a  square meter costs 286 euros,  in Videanu’s case it  costs 1,500 euros.  

Soon the apartments bought by  Videanuwere converted into social housing and  the luxury complex now looks like  a ruin.

Several residents of the cheapest social housing neighborhood built in Constanta spoke Monday on Antena 3 about  the conditions in which they live now and said they are grateful to Mayor RaduMazăre. 

"I would be living in the  streets and I would be sleeping in the sewer, if I did not live here," said one of the tenants.  

Other residents say that if they had not benefited from social housing they would be living in huts now.
