"Prosecutors from the National Anticorruption Directorate - Department for combating crimes of corruption assimilated to criminal offenses ordered the prosecution of Motreanu DAN ŞTEFAN MP and member holding a leadership position in a party (at the material time and presently) who is charged with the following crimes: use of influence from his leadership position of authority conferred by a political party in order to obtain an undue advantage for another - money laundering. The order to conduct criminal investigations indicated that there was evidence of reasonable suspicion of the following facts: In 2008, a person in a management position within the local government - in this case the denouncer - requested and received from another person the sum of 1 million euro as bribe in exchange for supporting the latter in their efforts regarding the possession taking of some plots of land in the municipality of Buzau.
From the money received, about 700,000 euros, according to a previous agreement, the denouncer gave Scutaru George-Adrian, at the material time deputy and member in a management position in a party (the defendant in this case) the sum of 170,000 euros while the sum of EUR 250,000 was remitted to Motreanu Dan Stefan, both amounts being given for the same purpose, namely to finance the election campaign of 2008 (local and general elections) of party candidates which included the two latter mentioned persons. There is evidence that the two beneficiaries knew about on the origin and the way the money was obtained " the DNA press release reads.
