Former presidents were invited to celebrate Europe Day together with His Majesty King Michael and foreign diplomats in Bucharest. Traian Basescu declined the invitation to Cotroceni.
It was interesting to see at the meeting the long awaited encounter of president Klaus Iohannis and Prime Minister Victor Ponta after a tough exchange of words they had the previous day.
Antena 3 reporter, Diana Lazăr, explained how the event unfolded:
"The two raised a glass of champagne, but did not exchange a word on other topics. After arriving at the presidential palace, Victor Ponta had a 15 minutes conversation with the head of the presidential chancellery, Dan Mihalache, and then Victor Ponta discussed with other guests.
The reception was attended by former presidents Ion Iliescu and Emil Constantinescu and Patriarch Daniel. The event’s absentee was Traian Basescu, who will attend over the weekend one of the activities organized by the People's Movement Party in the country. There are almost 1.000 guests at the Cotroceni Palace, from different domains."
