Romania is to accommodate over the next two years, 2362 immigrants from outside the EU. This number resulted from the proposed scheme by the European Commission under the plan to combat immigration across the Mediterranean Sea and refugees distribution in the European Union.

The Commission proposes a "resettlement" mechanism of immigrants, to help Italy and Greece. This scheme will apply to refugees in the two countries , after April 15, 2015 or after the mechanism application is started.

Overall, 40,000 refugees would go from Italy and Greece to other EU Member States. The countries will receive 6,000 euros for each immigrant received.

The number of refugees allocated to each country is determined by GDP, population, unemployment rate and the previous number of asylum seekers.
