Four F-16 fighter jets belonging to the Portuguese Air Force arrived Monday at the Air Base in Campia Turzii (Cluj), for a NATO exercise, the IHS Jane's military magazine writes. According to the Portuguese Air Force, the four fighters will remain in Campia Turzii Air Base until 30 June 2015, for the Falcon Defense exercise, meant to increase interoperability between NATO members.
The presence of the Portuguese military aircrafts is part of NATO measures to safeguard security of the Alliance's Eastern states, amid tensions with Russia. The four F-16 aircrafts are part of the Portuguese Air Force Squadron 201, based in Monte Real.
