Former director of RATB, Viorel Popescu, was sentenced to four years and four months in prison for office abuse and conflict of interest.

According to DNA prosecutors, Viorel Popescu incurred more than 800,000 euros in loses for the public transport company through a contract with a firm that provided legal services for RATB, although it did not have the right to do so.

In this case, Bucharest Autonomous Public Transportation Company asked the court for the recovery of the loses , therefore investigators have already placed under attachment the immovable assets of the former RATB director. The decision was taken by the Bucharest Court and may be appealed before the Court of Appeal. Viorel Popescu is currently tried in a criminal case.

He is accused that at the end of 2011 he received 2,500 euros from the managers of two companies in order to facilitate the performance of a contract about the company’s sale of used vehicles.
