Former director of the Romanian Intelligence Service l SRI Virgil Măgureanu, has been indicted in the miners’ strike case file.

Virgil Măgureanu stated Wednesday exiting the General Prosecution that it was a good thing that investigations in the miners’ strike case file were resumed.

"It is beneficial that investigations have resumed, so that all that has happened should be reconstituted ", Măgureanu said.

"We will give statements related to all that has happened and the accountability of each ", Virgil Măgureanu said.

Former President Ion Iliescu is prosecuted in the case file of the June 1990 miners’ strike for crimes against humanity, namely the violent repression of the demonstration in The University Square.
The supreme court confirmed on March 9 the decision of the ICCJ public prosecutors to reopen the prosecution case of miners’ strike from June 13-15, 1990; the investigation concerned the circumstances in which several people were injured during the events that took place in Bucharest.
When it was decided that the case be reopened, Ion Iliescu said he was not afraid of any prosecution or because he should be held accountable for what happened.
100 people died and over 1,300 were injured in the violent events taking place on 13-15 June 1990. The persons that could be charged in the case are:

1. ION ILIESCU: war propaganda, genocide, inhumane treatment


2. VIRGIL MĂGUREANU: genocide, subjection to inhumane treatment, destruction, appropriation or looting of cultural values

3. CHIŢAC MIHAI, DIAMANDESCU CORNELIU, PETER PETRE, DOBRINOIU VASILE, STĂNCULESCU VICTOR-ATANASE, DUMITRESCU EMIL and BÂTLAN DUMITRU: inhumane treatment, destruction or appropriation of cultural values looting, murder
