The former head of the Directorate for Investigation of Organised Crime and Terrorist Offences, Alina Bica is behind bars again, after less than five months of freedom!
This time around, anticorruption prosecutors accuse her of taking a 17 thousand euro bribe on her very birthday, in exchange for taking the heat off businessman Horia Simu, whom the Directorate was investigating.
This businessman, who was granted the largest compensation ever by the National Property Restitution Authority, was taken away in handcuffs to be questioned at the DNA headquarters. Prosecutors summoned Bica along with the former head of the National Fiscal Authority, Şerban Pop, who was also detained for 24 hours. Pop allegedly pocketed most of Simu's bribe: no less than 230 thousand euros!
