Former Communications Minister Gabriel Sandu was brought Monday to the DNA by police, based on a summons to be heard in the Microsoft licenses case. Gabriel Sandu has not made statements at the entrance to the headquarters of the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA).
There were also summoned to the DNA businessmen Dorin Cocoş, ex-husband of Elena Udrea and Nicolae Dumitru, who controls the Niro group of companies, as well as the mayor of Piatra Neamţ, Gheorghe Ştefan, for whom, according to sources, temporary detention orders were also issued.
In this file, DNA has asked for the approval to begin prosecution of nine ex-ministers - senators Şerban Mihăilescu and Ecaterina Andronescu, deputy Valerian Vreme, MEP Dan Nica, Daniel Funeriu, Alexandru Athanasiu, Mihai Tănăsescu, Gabriel Sandu and Adriana Ţicău.
According to DNA, people in the government, ministries and companies involved in the project of Microsoft licenses for schools had claimed 20 million dollars of the 54 million paid by the government under the contract.
"The National Anticorruption Directorate was notified on 5 June 2013 by the Control Department of the Prime Minister, as a result of inspection conducted at the Ministry for Information Society and the Ministry of Education in connection with the lease of educational licenses.
Since the control report indicated to clues about the licenses lease contract entered into on 15.04.2004, Microsoft later extended by addenda to the contract the range of educational products concerned by the Program.
The National Anticorruption Directorate ordered an investigation for the committing of crimes such as abuse of office and corruption offenses in connection with the performance of these contracts, " DNA said.
Prosecutors argue that former ministers Dan Nica, Şerban Mihăilescu, Ţicău Adriana, Alexandru Athanasiu, Mihai Tănăsescu and Sandu Gabriel " carried out their responsibilities in bad faith, entering the licensing framework contract from 15.04.2004 in onerous conditions for the state budget, ensuring the possibility of returning a discount of 47% given by Microsoft in consideration of the Romanian Government, and thus allowing payment of fees to other persons involved ".
However, investigators have evidence that the six former ministers have claimed and received money to improperly exercise their duties and to exercise influence over others, to favor the company Fujitsu Siemens Computers upon the conclusion and enforcement of the Microsoft licensing agreement.
The Chamber of Deputies approved on October 13, the request to start prosecuting deputy Valerian Vreme.
President Traian Băsescu approved on October 3, the DNA request for former minister Adriana Ţicău, Alexandru Athanasiu, Mihai Tănăsescu, Gabriel Sandu and Daniel Funeriu.
Last week, the anticorruption prosecutors had informed Adriana Ticau and Daniel Funeriu about the charges and facts they might be liable for in the Microsoft case, according to judicial sources.
The names of Dorin Cocos and Nicolae Dumitru are mentioned in the statements of witnesses heard in the Microsoft case, Another witness told prosecutors about the relations between the former head of Fujitsu Romania, Claudiu Florea, and Dorin Cocos, respectively Gheorghe Stefan.
