Traian Băsescu could be summoned before the prosecution to make statements in the file he is accused of blackmail. The former president publicly threatened Gabriela Firea last year, during the time when she was member in the parliamentary committee investigating the Nana land business deal.
Currently the investigation targets the facts not the people.
If judges find him guilty, Traian Basescu face up to seven years in prison for blackmail.
The whole scandal started from the statements made in April last year by Băsescu, which brought him these charges.
The president's remarks were made in the context where a parliamentary committee was investigating in the spring of 2014 the shady land transaction made at Nana by the presidential family and Gabriela Firea was one of the committee members who have drafted the report sent to the Prosecution office.
Prosecutors reopened on December 30, the case file in which Gabriela Firea, PSD Senator accuses the former president of blackmail. The PSD spokesperson is represented in court by lawyer Lucian Bolcaş..
The threats made by president Traian Basescu against an MP did not pass unnoticed. The criminal complaint was filed against the president on April 14.

The president’s warning comes a few days after Gabriela Firea, member in the Nana Committee, stated that the transaction whereby his daughter got her hands on the Nana land would allegedly be null.
