Downtown Bucharest was the venue for a special event in which French culinary refinement served a noble cause. The Embassy of France in Bucharest yesterday celebrated the French Gastronomy Day, with culinary delights such as zakuska, eggplant salad, seafood sarmale, or creme brulée alms cake.

The five-star brunch was the proud accomplishment of a joint Romanian-French chef team and was meant to draw attention to the global warming issue.

Made to look just like a French marketplace, the court yard of the Embassy of France in Bucharest yesterday turned into a gourmet heaven. Countless tables were filled with dozens of dishes. Anchovies in tempura sauce, bean foam with caramelized onions, grilled ram and quiche were just a few of the delicacies the head chef of the Embassy had prepared for their distinguished guests.

The guests were put through a difficult test when they had to choose from so many goodies.

This exclusive event was a celebration of French cuisine, the first one to have earned a spot on UNESCO's "intangible" cultural-heritage list.

This wonderful celebration of French Gastronomy amid wine tasting and cooking shows will continue through Tuesday.
