Traian Basescu presents himself as the great defender of justice. All that while he carries the burden of being suspected of some shady business deals, which are not investigated by the prosecutors because he enjoys presidential immunity. Here are some of the case files Basescu has been involved in.

Băsescu’s case files at the begining of his term in the office:

1. Defendant in the Fleet case file

2. Investigated in the Mihăileanu case file

3. Suspected of money laundering

Căşuneanu case file

- August 2000 - Băsescu bought a land plot with 1,4 billion Romanian old lei

- 2002 - Băsescu sells the land plot to Căşuneanu’s sister in law with 12 billion Romanian old lei

- Băsescu – investigated for bribery and money laundering

- February 2005 - Iulian Dragomir (National Office for Preventing and Combating Money Laundering) closed the file

Mihăileanu case file, documents dissappeared

- 2002 - Băsescu, Mayor of Bucharest allotted to himself the Mihăileanu villa.

- February 2003 – he bought the house although he did not have the right to(he had another house in his property)

- the house allotment file disappeared during Videanu’s term as mayor of Bucharest

- December 2005 – The General Prosecutor office closed the file

The Fleet case file

- August 9, 2004 - indicted – damage amounting to 324.5 million

- the file returns to the PNA because it was not signed by Ioan Amarie (PNA Chief Prosecutor), who was on leave, and the delegation order of George Suhan, deputy, disappeared from the file

- July 2005 - the Justice Small Reform Law is adopted whereby the President receives the right to appoint the heads of the prosecution offices and of the courts. (instead of the CSM)

- August 2, 2005 - Monica Macovei lays off all prosecutors who were investigating the "Fleet" case file.

  • August 9, 2005 - Daniel Morar is appointed chief prosecutor of DNA

    - Morar orders the disjunction in the "Fleet" file of the part referring to Traian Băsescu and the case file is suspended for the time the president holds office.
     
  • - instead of signing the indictment, he appoints a new prosecutor in charge of the file - Carmen Gruescu, brought form Strehaia

    - he orders a third expertise that reaches the conclusion that there were no material damages incurred to the state on account of the Fleet case file.

    Alro, the business that could burry Băsescu


    - 2007 - undermining the national economy
     
  • - Elena Udrea, Theodor Stolojan (presidential adviser) - influence peddling for Marco Group

    - Traian Basescu sent a memorandum of Alro to the Minister of Economy with a note asking them to solve the problem .

    - Russians from Alro were talking about this note that was written in the presence of Dorin Cocos who ensured them the situation would be solved.
