Arad shopping centers are taken by storm, especially on weekends, by buyers coming from Hungary. Therefore, local shopping centers have adapted their greetings to the buyers who come from abroad.

Selgros shopping center, for instance, greets its foreign clients with a message in Hungarian: ”Udvozoljuk uzletunkben” – ”Welcome to our store”, informs Arq.ro.

Most shoppers come from villages near the border with Romania and the reasons for doing this are twofold: the lowered VAT on food and the fact that in their country shops are closed on Sundays.
The growing number of buyers from across the border increased the revenues of supermarkets in Arad. ARQ discussed informally with their representatives who say that Sunday between 10 and 15, all the customers are from Hungary.
