The Government and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have reached an agreement to reduce the health insurance contribution rate  from  July 1. Discussions on this issue will continue at the next visit to Bucharest by Fund probably in July or August, Mediafax reports.

The IMF board will reconvene in the fall to analyze the results of the assessment mission.

According to current data, the IMF mission would leave Bucharest without a cover letter handed by  the Romanian authorities and the Board to be hold in the fall, most likely in November, will analyze the results of the current  review and the results of the assessment  mission scheduled for July-August.

An IMF mission came to Bucharest in early June for the third review of the stand-by agreement, the most important topic on the authorities agenda targeted  the possibility of reducing the health assurance contribution  by 5 percentage points from the second half of the year.

The IMF representatives met today with Prime Minister Victor Ponta. The main topic  of discussion was the reduction of the health assurance contribution rate.


Victor Ponta stated  Wednesday that  he hoped  for an easing of  labor taxation to be made ​​"within a reasonable time" and to be  supported by the  opposition as well.
