President Klaus Iohannis said on Monday, in a message conveyed at the BestInvest Economic Forum, held in New York, that, four years after the adoption of the Strategic Partnership, he is confident that the US can become one of the top investors in Romania.
"We celebrate four years since the adoption of the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the United States of America. This partnership has brought many benefits to our bilateral relations, especially in terms of security. Its importance should not however be confined to the security dimension. The economic dimension must win the same fundamental importance ", reads the President’s message, presented by Cosmin Marinescu economic adviser at the opening of the economic forum held in New York, Mediafax informs.
The President says that the American investments are welcome in Romania, who benefits from a sustained economic growth and from stable financial and monetary policy.
"We are confident that the United States can become in the upcoming years, one of the top investors in our country. Its economy benefits from important advantages: sustainable economic growth, monetary and financial stability, low public debt, well- prepared labor force and considerable natural resources. Romania is an element of stability for the entire region, "reads the message sent by the president.
Also, Iohannis recalls that trade between Romania and the United States is on an upward trend and in order to capitalize on all existing economic opportunities, it is necessary to remove the "barriers" in the way of free trade and efficient investment.
The head of state reiterated that Romania needs a new economic development model, a model based on competitiveness and responsibility.
The head of state also said that investors’ confidence can be regained only by improving the business environment, which entails "protecting property, reducing red tape, streamline public administration and fighting corruption".
