Romanian culinary delights start to gain recognition in Europe. The Ibăneşti cheese will be Romania's second traditional food product, after the Topoloveni jam, to be certified by the European Food Authority in Brussels.

This official recognition met some resistence from Greece but, eventually, the Romanian and the Greek sides managed to reach an agreement on the matter.

The brine used by the Ibăneşti cheese factory is made with water from a fountain near Orşova and is rich in calcium and minerals. It's a recipe that will take this cheese from Mureş County straight to European tables!

Shortly after submitting the documentation needed for the European certification we met with opposition from Greece. They claimed the Romanian word for this kind of cheese - "telemea" came from the Greek word "telemes" and, therefore, it cannot be registered as a Romanian product. The two sides eventually managed to reach an agreement.

Now, that this dispute has been settled, the Ibăneşti cheese is to become the second Romanian traditional product certified at European level. The first one was the already famous Topoloveni jam.
