UPDATE: Defense Minister Mircea Dusa said Tuesday during the Ministry’s annual report presentation that the two NATO headquarters set to be established in our country will be located in Bucharest and will become operational in 2016 and 2018.

"Our proposals have been materialized in early February this year, during the defense ministers meeting in Brussels, where it was decided that the Alliance will have, through the two multi-annual command centers a visible and consistent presence in Romania. I consider it as a very important achievement after our entry into NATO, " the Minister of Defense stated.

Duşa also added that he proposed that, in a first stage, they should aim to reach an operational status of the units, for the NATO forces integration, until June, and by the Summit in Poland in 2016 full operational capability should be achieved.

The Defense Minister also said that in terms of the national command division he envisaged that the initial operational capability will be achieved by 2016, and the complete operation capability will be reached by 2018.

"About the location of the two command headquarters, because it is a question I am often asked, the two command headquarters will operate in Bucharest," Dusa said.

Two NATO command and control centers will be set up in Romania, they will become operational in 2016, and this will employ Romanian military but also forces from other Member States as it was decided in early February by the Defense Ministers of the Member States Alliance.
