President Klaus Iohannis arrived Tuesday in the Republic of Moldova, on his first official visit as head of the Romanian state. The visit started with a meeting with his Moldovan counterpart Nicolae Timofti.


At the end of the meeting with the Moldovan President, Klaus Iohannis addressed the benefits of European integration. European integration means a prosperous future for Moldovan citizens and this is demonstrated by the example of Romania and the other Member States, President Iohannis said.

"I’ve talked to the president about the indisputable benefits of European integration. European integration is the only guarantee of a prosperous future in safety and dignity for all citizens of Moldova," President Iohannis said.


"There are in Romania and among our European partners, expectations and high hopes from Moldova in the sense of the voting expressed in November 2014. I want to assure all Moldovan citizens and Romanian citizens that Romania will do everything possible to support Moldova on its European and democratic path, " Klaus Iohannis added.

Klaus Iohannis encouraged the Moldovan authorities to merge the popular will to the will of politicians, who will have to fight against corruption. Corruption kills the people’s welfare, Iohannis said.

President Klaus Iohannis will meet with the new Prime Minister in Chişinãu, Chir Gaburici.

Tuesday evening , the president of the Republic of Moldova, Nicolae Timofti, will hold an official dinner honoring Klaus Iohannis, at the famous wine company "Cricova".

On the second day of his visit, President Klaus Iohannis will meet with leaders of the main political parties in Chisinau: Vlad Filat, president of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Marian Lupu, President of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) Mihai Ghimpu, leader of the Liberal Party (PL), and the Parliament’s Speaker Andrian Candu.

Also, the President will address the students at Moldova State University and will deposit a wreath at the monument "Stefan cel Mare".
