On board Air Algerie, crashed on July 24 in Mali, no Romanian has been identified, announced Monday, the Foreign Ministry after conducting complex verifications through the computerized records of MAE and MAI and of the names on the passengers lists , a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs.

"The operations cells constituted by the authorities in Burkina Faso and the representatives of Air Algerie confirmed by official written documents that there was no Romanian citizen onboard the AH5017 aircraft crashed in Mali”.

Moreover, the information was confirmed by crisis cells in France, Algeria and Burkina Faso.

Currently, the investigation into the causes of the plane crash and the passengers identification procedure is ongoing.

Initially, after the preliminary information provided by the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Thursday that on board Air Algerie, crashed the same day in Mali, there was also a Romanian citizen.

Friday, MAE informed that there was no evidence indicating the presence on board of any Romanian citizen.

A representative of the Algerian Foreign Ministry reported on Friday to the Romanian Embassy that the presence of a Romanian citizens onboard Air Algerie aircraft crashed Thursday in Mali could not be confirmed, Foreign Ministry says, which started a "complex procedure" of passengers checking.

The Romanian Embassy to Algeria reported on Friday to the MFA Headquarters that a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Algeria retracted the previously communicated information about the existence of a Romanian citizen on board the aircraft belonging to the Algerian company.

Algerian Foreign Ministry representative said that the information on the presence of a Romanian could not be confirmed so far a statement by the Foreign Ministry in Bucharest said.

Air Algerie plane flying from Burkina Faso to Algeria crashed Thursday in Mali. There were 110 passengers and six crew members on board.

The aircraft McDonnell Douglas (MD-83), belonging to Air Algerie / Swiftair, had taken off from Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) and headed for Algiers (Algeria).
