“The Meeting Point” show producer, Radu Tudor, has made public the data of a national CSCI poll on the evolution of the Romanian political class over the last five years and of the candidates enlisted in the presidential race.

The CSCI poll was conducted on a sample of 1,100 people, from 15 to 18 September 2014 and has an error margin of 3%.

As expected, the current prime minister and PSD presidential candidate, Victor Ponta, enjoys the highest confidence level, the highest level of voting intention. Moreover, Ponta is credited with the best chance to win the elections, regardless of the respondents' preferences.

The PSD spokesman, Dan Sova, said that he personally would prefer that Iohannis should stay in the electoral race and not encounter any legal problems.

"I do not want Mr. Iohannis out of the presidential race. But at the same time, not as a PSD representative, but as any citizen, I would not like to have in office a president with a tin tail hanging. Because that is what happened with Mr Traian Basescu. For 10 years we have discussed the "fleet" case file. I hope the High Court would prove Mr. Iohannis right so we should have a political confrontation. "

Liberal Corneliu Dobriţoiu pointed out that several surprises might come up in the elections campaign but only after round I.

"In terms of numbers. We should bear in mind that about 60% of the people who responded said they would never vote for the PSD nor for Victor Ponta. In other words, in the second round, when votes are polarized, it may happen that Mr. Ponta could have no more room to grow. If we also refer to the dissatisfied local barons wave hypothesis, a phenomenon could occur. People who until then had trusted something might say "stop game." People might not struggle so hard in the second round.

Moreover, it would hardly be a first. In the second round between Nastase and Basescu the PSD lack of commitment was felt through. The score will have another configuration, in my opinion. Mr. Ponta has a reputation of 90%. He has got no more reputation growing space. The intention to vote for him is 42% in the first round when the right is polarized. I say that more water will flow along the Danube. "
