President Klaus Iohannis nominated for the position of Director of Foreign Intelligence Service Mihai Razvan Ungureanu, reads a press release of the Presidency.

"According to the Constitution, President Klaus Iohannis gave notice, through an official letter, to the presidents of the two Chambers of the Parliament about the nomination, after which the Parliament should take a decision in this regard," the press release says.

"It is an honor for me this nomination and I hope that it has been made knowingly. I wish that Parliament would give me the confidence vote," Ungureanu said.

Asked if he left unfinished things at SIE when he interrupted his first term, Mihai Razvan Ungureanu claimed that there were many projects that he managed to carry out.

"There were many projects, which, together with the Foreign Intelligence Service, the Foreign Intelligence Service employees, we were able to carry out. We believe, Mr. President, above all, that we need a Foreign Intelligence Service strong and truly involved in what today means ensuring national security in such a troubled regional context, so unclear, " Ungureanu said.
Asked about the fact that SIE has had no leadership for 8 months, Ungureanu said that "the Foreign Intelligence Service was very well run in the absence of a civilian director too."

Asked if his nomination was political, Ungureanu said: "Either way there is a question .... I expect that there will be a discussion in the Standing Bureaus obviously, the in the Committee where all the parliamentary parties are represented and then the end result is given by vote (...) The vote is sacred and following a vote of the plenum we will see what will be the result. "

Radu Tudor and Bogdan Chirieac commented on Antena 3, the information about the nomination of Mihai Răzvan Ungureanu as head of SIE.

"We expected Iohannis to offer a position to Mihai Răzvan Ungureanu", commented Radu Tudor, in a live intervention on Antena 3.  "The great disadvantage is that MRU bears the stigma of Băsescu’s regime ", the TV producer said.
"Mr. Mihai Răzvan Ungureanu, above all, has experience in this position. (...) It was natural for president Iohannis to nominate someone close" analyst Bogdan Chirieac added.

Teodor Meleşcanu resigned on September 22 , 2014, from the office of director of SIE, to run in the presidential elections.
