In 2011, when she was Minister of Development and Tourism, Elena Udrea promised to allocate 35 million euros in government funds to build the Voineasa Transalpina Ski Resort. The money did not come, so the project was halted in 2013 for lack of funding. The company that has won the tender still has to be recovered from the state 8 million euros. Because the company has not received the money until now, the constructor has obtained a court order whereby it stands to receive all revenues from the slope exploitation until the debt is settled.
The local authorities, the initial beneficiaries of the touristic complex of Voineasa say that Elena Udrea is to blame, because she took this project out of the list of projects funded from European funds and transferred it into a government funded project.
"If she had let us proceed further with the European funding, today we would not have been in this dramatic situation that Mrs. Elena Udrea has left us in. Upon her departure from the Ministry, the works at the investment in the Lotru Mountains was performed at a rate of 92 %. Why did she not pay then and let us with a mess of a debt on your head? " ION CÎLEA said, President of CJ Valcea.
There is only the ski facility and the parking which is partially completed out of the entire touristic compound that should have been the Transalpina Ski Resort. The equipment has been left outdoors for almost 2 years old and it is deteriorating day by day. Moreover, the entire area where they should have built hotels and other commercial premises has been deforested.
