Cristian Troncota, dean of the  National Intelligence Academy, says Traian Basescu likes to make  jokes and asserts that Ponta could not have been an  undercover officer, but a collaborator of  SIE at the most  and that the legislation in 1997 would not have forbidden him such a  collaboration.

"From what he stated ( Traian Basescu), it appears  that either he does not know what an undercover officer is or he likes to play pranks . An undercover officer means an officer who has a false identity with  a biography he has  to learn.

If he  was an  undercover officer his name would not  have been  Ponta anymore, he would have changed  his name and nobody would have ever known about him. (...) If you read the existing laws, then in ‘97, he was allowed,  because he was not used in  the internal space to provide information about his fellow prosecutors. He  was used in a diplomatic mission outside the country, "said Tuesday Cristian Troncota, dean of the National Intelligence Academy, according  to jurnalul.ro.
